My grandfather was a Landing craft operator who served during the D-Day invasion. Someone told me he was entitled to a medal, given by France to those who participated in D-Day.
Is this true? if so, how do I go about obtaining one for him?
Thanks for you help and service.
Bill - Thank you for your comment on the PA American Legion website. Ron Conley, Director for Veterans’ Services in Allegheny County (Pittsburgh PA), stated that it is true - your grandather is entitled to a medal from France. He said that you could get in contact with the Consulate in Pittsburgh or the French Embassy in Washington DC. Their website is http://ambafrance-us.org/spip.php?rubrique=2.
I have been looking looking around for this kind of information. Will you post some more in future? I’ll be grateful if you will.
