Pennsylvania is the largest Department in the American Legion,
with almost 250,000 members strong. The American Legion is an organization
that is vested in America, veterans and their families, community,
as well as our Nation’s youth.
The American Legion is a powerful voice in Washington. We are dedicated
to preserving the rights we have earned for veterans since the
Legion’s beginning in 1919. Through great dedication we also
look towards the future to protect and fight for rights of our current
servicemen and women because just like them, WE ARE STILL SERVING
AMERICA.
Preamble to the Constitution of
The American Legion For God and Country we associate ourselves together for the following

sense of individual obligation to the community, state and nation;
to combat the autocracy of both the classes and the masses; to make
right the master of might; to promote peace and goodwill on earth;
to safeguard and transmit to posterity the principles of justice,
freedom and democracy; to consecrate and sanctify our comradeship
by our devotion to mutual helpfulness.
