Kit Watson has been a member of the American Legion for the past 32 years holding multiple positions at Post, District, County, Department and National levels. He has also held many positions with other organizations.
Born and raised in Carmichaels, Pennsylvania he joined the U. S. Air Force and was called to active duty during the Vietnam era. He was a flight control technician on the B-52 and KC-135 aircraft. In the American Legion Kit served as Post Commander for 4 years 100% all 4 years, Membership Chairman for 10 years, also 100% each year, and Post Adjutant for 10 years. He was awarded a Life Membership in 1992 by Post 400. He also served as Secretary 1995-1997 and President 1997-2000 for Greene County Veterans Council.
At the Department level, Kit served as Vice Chairman of New Post Home, and Scholarship Endowment Fund and Western Section Finance Officer to name a few of the positions he held. He was awarded the prestigious Blue Cap of the Year in 1998 as well. He was also appointed as the Western Section Adjutant 1998-1999, elected as twenty-fifth District Commander in 1999-2000 and appointed Department Adjutant in 2001. He is the first Vietnam era veteran to serve as Pennsylvania Department Adjutant, and only the eighth Adjutant in Pennsylvania’s history.
Kit served at the National level in the positions of Americanism Council and Distinguished Guests Committee Vice Chairman. He earned the Gold Brigade (1997) and the Silver Brigade (1999) Award. Kit is an American Legion Extension Institute Graduate.
In 2002 Kit was elected as secretary for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania War Veterans Council a position he still holds. Within his community Kit has been involved with the Greene Academy of Art as a Charter Member and is also a Life Member of D.A.V. Chapter 12, VFW Post 6303, AMVETS, Vietnam Veterans of America, and Scotland School for Veterans Children. He is a member of ANAVICUS, Greene County Voiture1020 40 & 8, Ye Steivos and the Chapel of the Four Chaplains in which he received a Legion of Honor Award in 2000.
In 2005 Kit was awarded an Accommodation Medal from Governor Edward G. Rendell for his work on the Pennsylvania War Memorial Commission. In September 2005, the Governor appointed Kit to serve on a search committee for a seventh veterans home in Pennsylvania.
His two children, Jonathan and Danielle, are members of the S.A.L. & Auxiliary. Kit was a self-employed electrician from 1977-2000. He is also the owner of Tower of Power Systems and a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Kit and his wife Debbie reside in Enola Pennsylvania.
