Scotland School for Veterans’ Children
Scotland School for Veterans’ Children is a co-educational residential school for students in grades three through twelve located in south central Pennsylvania in the village of Scotland. A scholarship is provided to students who meed eligibility requirements and are offered admission.
The Pennsylvania American Legion continues to support Scotland School as it is the only remaining school of its kind still in existence. Scotland School will provide opportunities for student of Pennsylvania veterans to develop lifelong learning skill. The students are challenged to achieve full potential as responsible citizens with a respect for diversity in a growing global society.
Pennsylvania law established Scotland School’s admissions’ criteria as follows:
Prospective student must be the natural or adopted child, grandchild, niece, nephew, or sibling of an “eligible veteran.” An “eligible veteran” is defined as an individual who:
- served in the U.S. Armed Forces or the Pennsylvania Military Forces
- was honorably discharged from military service or
- is currently on active duty
To be considered for enrollment, the child should be academically capable and have an interest in living in residence at Scotland School. His or her custodial parent or legal guardian is required to have maintained Pennsylvania residency for a minimum of three years prior to admission.
The child must be at least six years of age, entering the third grade, and must not have reached their sixteenth birthday prior to their enrollment.
